Regimental Reunions

As with the survivors of many Civil War regiments, the veterans of the 76th New York held annual reunions for many years after the end of the Civil War, starting in 1869. It was common to hand out buttons or ribbons to commemorate each get-together. The 76th New York veterans association continued to meet every October near the anniversary of the unit's original muster, until 1922, when there were too few left to continue the practice. The stories on this site discuss the first reunion of the regiment, and the formation of the Regimental Association, as well as the the 1902 reunion in Groton and the last reunion, held in 1925 after the veteran's association had disbanded - by then there were only eight very elderly survivors.
