It is possible that Redmond's wife, Ann, was a "vivandiere" with the 76th New York. According to the Regimental History,

"No one connected with the Seventy-Sixth will ever forget Thomas Redmond, or his wife Ann, who was ever with him, on all occasion, marching by his side, and sharing all his joys and sorrows, and by her lively conversation, helping to drive away many a gloomy reflection incident to the life of a soldier. Though Ann did not shoulder a musket, she should be set down as much more useful to the army than many a one who did. Could clothing speak, many a blood-stained garment would testify to Annís industry, as day after day she labored over her half-barrel washtub to keep the Seventy-sixth comfortably clean." (History of the Seventy Sixth RegimentóA.P. Smith, 1867, pg. 121) (an off-site link to a page on Vivandieres - and another page on Vivandieres -  see also "Women in the Civil War")

CASE.--Private William Reeves, Co. C, 76th New York Volunteers, aged 22 years, received, at the battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, May 6th, 1864, a compound comminuted fracture of inferior maxilla by a conoidal ball, which entered the left cheek half an inch anterior to the angle of the jaw, and emerged at a point nearly opposite. He was conveyed to a field hospital, where a large number of splinters were removed through the mouth and aperture of exit. He was admitted to the Stanton Hospital, Washington, on May 11th, 1864. Aperture of entrance small; that of exit about three inches in its longest diameter. On May 12th, secondary haemorrhage occurred. He lost about twenty-four ounces of blood, and was much exhausted. On the same day, at five o'clock P. M., the left common carotid artery was ligated by Assistant Surgeon George A. Mursick, U. S. V. No anaesthetic was used. Patient did not rally after the operation. As of August, 1898, Rifenburg (sp?) was living in Ocala, Florida. He applied for an increase in pension due to conditions which he said resulted from "scurvy in the Army." The doctor concluded that his problems were due to old age, but recommended an increase to $12 per month. The doctor's evaluation is available through the Florida GenWeb website. He died and was buried in Ocala - according to the Ocala Evening Star, which reported on May 30, 1905, that his grave in the "old cemetery" had been decorated by the seventeen remaining members of the Ocala G.A.R. on Memorial Day. This website has said "Buried in Minnesota, per personal communication 12/13/99 from Keith Gulsvig". It appears this is not correct. According to his great grandson,  Farrell Ruddock [fjk@knology.net], Nathan Ruddock died in 1934 and is buried in Fullerton, Orange  County, California, at Loma Vista Memorial Park. (personal communication, April 10, 2006)

From his birth year, it appears that he might have been underage when he enlisted - the AG report says he was 18, which was the minimum legal enlistment age without parental permission, but if he was born in 1844 he'd have been only 17 at the time of his enlistment.

Pitcher Town records give his occupation as "farmer" and say he was "wounded in left eye". He is mentioned in a letter from Warren Follett
