B, July 24 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; died of scorbutis, August 22, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga., a prisoner of war. Scorbutis is scurvy, a dietary disease caused by lack of vitamin C.

WALTERS, JAMES.-Age, 42 years. Enlisted at Buffalo, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. B, August 5, 1863; discharged for disability, December 16, 1863, at Convalescent Camp, Alexandria, Va.

WALTON, JOHN.-Age, 26 years. Enlisted at Eagle, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. C, July 30, 1863; transferred to Co. A, November 8, 1864; to Co. C, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

Pitcher Town records say, "Warner, Hiram Gad, Co. B, 76th NY Inf.; enlisted 9-20-1861, discharged 3-4-1865; rank private/sergeant; taken prisoner at Wilderness May 5, 1864 confined in Andersonville until 9-5-1864 then removed to Florence, SC and kept until exchanged. Occupation carpenter."

According to the regimental history by A. P. Smith, "At the battle of Gettysburg, July first, 1863, he (Watkins) commanded the Color Company until toward night of the first day, when, the Adjutant being wounded, he was appointed Acting Adjutant by Captain Cook commanding the Regiment. He continued in that position until the Regiment reached Rappahanock Station, when he received orders from General Rice, commanding the First Division, to report at his headquarters as Acting Aide-de-Camp upon his staff. ... Lieutenant Watkins was SLIGHTLY WOUNDED at GETTYSBURG, July first 1863, and the same day promoted to Captain."  After the war Watkins and his father became proprietors of the Exchange Hotel in Albany.

WATROUS, BENJAMIN F.-Age, 21 years. Enlisted, September 14, 1861, at Freetown, to serve three years; mustered in as sergeant, Co. D, October 4, 1861; returned to ranks, November 2, 1862; transferred to Co. -, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865. According to the 1898 "Book of Biographies", Watrous became a physician, and died in California.

WATROUS, CHARLES LEACH.-Age, 24 years. Enrolled, September 14, 1861, at Freetown, to serve three years; mustered in as captain, Co. D, October 8, 1861; wounded in action, August 29, 1862, at Bull Run, Va.; discharged for disability caused by wound, to date December 19, 1862. Morris Watrous died in 1915 and is buried in Cortland Rural Cemetery - his name is spelled "Watros" on his tombstone.

"In 1925 his 60-year-old daughter Jennie A. Chrisman was listed as being a member of the Enid Daughters of Union Veterans. She was born in Georgetown, NY, and lived in Enid.
